INTRODUCTION TO THE USE OF RELIABILITY ANALYSIS IN SHIPS' ENGINEERING SYSTEMS
Attempts to introduce the basic concepts of reliability engineering, and outline some of the basic procedures and theory applicable to ships' engineering systems. Emphasis is given to the concepts involved in the design of equipment, while the principles of scheduling maintenance activities are only briefly discussed. Some of the present difficulties encountered in the adoption of reliability engineering, such as the lack of service data, are discussed and possible methods of overcoming the problems are indicated.
