TRAFFIC GENERATION OF SUBURBAN LONDON OFFICES

AN ANALYSIS OF THE RESULTS OF A SURVEY OF TRAFFIC GENERATION IN SUBURBAN LONDON IS GIVEN FOR USE IN ASSESSING THE TRAFFIC IMPLICATIONS OF PROPOSED OFFICE DEVELOPMENTS. THE SURVEY WAS CARRIED OUT ON A TOTAL OF TEN OFFICE BLOCKS LOCATED IN THE LONDON BOROUGHS OF CROYDON, EALING AND ENFIELD, DURING MARCH 1972. TRAFFIC GENERATION RATES ARE PRESENTED BASED ON VARIOUS OFFICE BLOCK CHARACTERISTICS, TOGETHER WITH THE DISTRIBUTION OF TRAFFIC THROUGHOUT THE DAY, EMPHASISING PEAK PERIODS, THE MODAL CHOICE OF ALL JOURNEY PURPOSES, AND A BRIEF DISCUSSION OF THE APPARENT EFFECTS OF PARKING SUPPLY RESTRAINT ON THIS MODEL CHOICE. THIS IS ONE OF A SERIES OF SURVEYS BEING CARRIED OUT ON VARIOUS LAND USES WITHIN LONDON.
