HIGHWAY TRAVEL FORECASTS RELATED TO ENERGY REQUIREMENTS
A STUDY WAS MADE OF TRAVEL FORECASTS AND HOW THE ENERGY SITUATION WILL AFFECT THEM. COMPUTATIONS WERE DONE OF HIGHWAY ENERGY CONSUMPTION IN ORDER TO IDENTIFY AREAS HAVING GREATEST POTENTIAL FOR FUEL SAVINGS. THE CONCLUSIONS REACHED WERE THAT THESE AREAS ARE: IMPROVED GAS MILEAGE FOR PASSENGER CARS; IMPROVED UTILIZATION RESUTING FROM GREATER VEHICLE OCCUPANCY; USE OF MASS TRANSIT; AND IMPROVEMENT OF INTERCITY FREIGHT AND SCHOOL BUS EFFICIENCY.
