A STATE-WIDE TRAFFIC MODEL FOR THE STATE OF GEORGIA EXPERIMENTAL MODEL DEVELOPMENT

EXPERIMENTAL MODELS ARE DEVELOPED AND ELABORATED FOR GENERATING TRIPS WITHIN AND DISTRIBUTING THEM BETWEEN STATE AND OUT-OF-STATE ZONES ON THE BASIS OF ASSUMED CHANGES IN POPULATION, INCOME, VEHICLE REGISTRATION, AND VEHICLE MILES OF TRAVEL. ASSIGNED VOLUMES (BY THE GRAVITY MODEL) WERE COMPARED WITH ACTUAL GROUND COUNTS FOR THE BASE YEAR. REGRESSION EQUATIONS WERE DEVELOPED WITH A CORRELATION COEFFICIENT OF 0.86 OR BETTER. A SYNTHETIC DISCRIMINANT FUNCTION WAS OBTAINED BY WHICH TO DIFFERENTIATE MORE RATIONALLY BETWEEN URBAN AND RURAL COUNTIES. DEVELOPMENT OF THE FINAL MODELS IS STILL IN PROGRESS.
