SHIPOWNER'S APPROACH TO SOME SHAFTING MACHINERY AND HULL PROBLEMS
The change in shafting alignment brought about by the very large changes in draught in large tankers and bulk carriers produced problems with high powered main reduction gearing. A complete solution is offered in a novel bull gear design which isolates the gearing from the static and dynamic transverse and axial forces and moments brought about by these changes in shafting alignment.
