TIRE TRACTION RESEARCH
THE MAJOR TOPICS DISCUSSED ARE TRACTION TESTING AND TRACTION MODELING. REPRESENTATIVE TIRE DATA ARE PRESENTED TO ILLUSTRATE TWO APPROACHES TO TRACTION TESTING: WET TESTING FOR LIMIT PERFORMANCE CAPABILITY AND COMBINED BRAKING-CORNERING TESTS TO GAIN A MORE COMPLETE UNDERSTANDING OF TIME BEHAVIOR. A SEMI- EMPIRICAL MODEL DEVELOPED AT HSRI TO SIMULATE COMBINED BRAKING-CORNERING TRACTION CHARACTERISTICS IS DISCUSSED. THE SIMULATED TRACTION CURVES ARE COMPARED WITH EXPERIMENTAL TEST DATA. /AUTHOR/
