SHIP'S PROPELLERS MOUNTED WITHOUT KEYS

The fitting of a keyless propeller using the method developed by SKF involves expanding the propeller bore with oil under pressure and allowing it to shrink into position on the shaft, the degree of interference being sufficient to provide a positive drive. Because there is no keyway, stress concentration is reduced, the operational life is longer, and inspection is required less frequently.
