SOME EFFECTS OF LAG AND GAP ACCEPTANCE DISTRIBUTION ON AVERAGE DELAY AT PRIORITY INTERSECTIONS
THE APPLICATION OF THREE COMPUTER PROGRAMS TO THE SIMULATION OF TRAFFIC FLOW AT AN EXISTING PRIORITY INTERSECTION IS CONSIDERED. OBSERVED AND SIMULATED DELAYS TO MINOR ROAD VEHICLES ARE EXAMINED AND THE EFFECT OF THE OBSERVED GAP AND LAG ACCEPTANCE ON SIMULATED DELAYS IS NOTED. CURVES OF AVERAGE DELAY WHERE GAP AND LAG ACCEPTANCE IS A STEP FUNCTION AND WHERE IT HAS LOG-NORMAL DISTRIBUTION ARE OBTAINED BY SIMULATION. THE DISTRIBUTION OF DELAYS OBTAINED WITH THESE PROGRAMS IS EXAMINED. A COMPARISON IS GIVEN OF AVERAGE DELAYS OBTAINED BY SIMULATION USING A STEP FUNCTION, CUMULATING LOG-NORMAL AND EXPONENTIAL GAP ACCEPTANCE DISTRIBUTIONS. /TEC/
