'TANSYT' METHOD FOR AREA TRAFFIC CONTROL
A DESCRIPTION IS PROVIDED OF THE TRANSYT COMPUTER PROGRAM. THIS PROGRAM IS USED TO DETERMINE SIGNAL OFFSETS FOR PROGRESSION IN A DENSE SIGNAL NETWORK (I.E., SIGNALS LESS THAN 750 FEET APART) BY MINIMIZING AVERAGE JOURNEY TIME. THE PRESENT PROGRAM IS LIMITED TO FIFTY INTERSECTIONS. FIELD VERIFICATION OF THE TRANSYT METHOD WAS CARRIED OUT IN GLASGOW AND ON CROMWELL ROAD IN LONDON. GOOD AGREEMENT WAS FOUND BETWEEN THE COMPUTER VALUES AND THE FIELD VALUES AS MEASURED BY TEST CAR RUNS. /AUTHOR/
