THIS IS THE FIRST OF A THREE-PART SERIES SUMMARIZING A RESEARCH REPORT OF THE SAME TITLE. THIS ABRIDGEMENT SERIES INCLUDES ABOUT 25 PERCENT OF THE RESEARCH REPORT. IN ORDER TO MAKE SUCH A SEVERE CONDENSATION MANY REFERENCES AND TABLES HAVE BEEN DELETED. PART I OF THE SERIES INCLUDES THE INTRODUCTION AND DESCRIPTION OF THE SCOPE OF THE WORK PERFORMED TOGETHER WITH INFORMATION PERTAINING TO THE FOLLOWING AREAS: VOLUME, GAP AVAILABILITY, AND GAP ACCEPTANCE CHARACTERISTICS.
