MULTI-PARAMETER VEHICLE FLOW DETECTION
THERE IS A WIDE DEMAND FOR VEHICLE FLOW PARAMETERS OTHER THAN A TRAFFIC COUNT ALONE. ONE BASIC ELEMENT IN ALMOST EVERY FIELD OF APPLICATION IS THE VEHICLE SENSING DETECTOR, IN THIS ARTICLE THE REQUIREMENTS FOR AN IDEAL DETECTOR AND ITS PLACEMENT ARE ANALYZED TO PRODUCE PULSE OUTPUTS SUITABLE FOR MULTI-PARAMETER DETECTION. THE MEASUREMENT OF TRAFFIC VOLUME AND DENSITY TOGETHER WITH VEHICLE SPEED AND LENGTH BY CONVERTING ELAPSED TIME IS EXAMINED. THE ERROR POSSIBILITIES AND THE ACCURACY OF THIS TECHNIQUE ARE ALSO DISCUSSED. /AUTHOR/
