THE LOGNORMAL HEADWAY DISTRIBUTION MODEL

THE TESTING OF A LOGNORMAL MATHEMATICAL MODEL OF VEHICULAR HEADWAY DISTRIBUTION IS DESCRIBED. THE PROBABILITY DISTRIBUTION IS ONE THAT ASSUMES THAT NOT THE SAMPLE VALUES, BUT THE LOGARITHMS OF THE SAMPLE VALUES, HAVE NORMAL DISTRIBUTION. IN ADDITION TO THE ACTUAL FORMULATION OF THE MODEL, METHODS TO ESTIMATE THE PARAMETERS INVOLVED ARE DEVELOPED. A WIDE RANGE OF TRAFFIC VOLUME DATA WAS COLLECTED BY MEANS OF AERIAL PHOTOGRAPHY. GRAPHICAL AND STATISTICAL (KOLMOGOROV-SMIRNOV AND THE CHI-SQUARE TEST) "GOODNESS OF FIT" METHODS WERE USED TO TEST THE DATA. /RRL/
