THEORETICAL RESEARCH AND EXPERIMENTAL STUDIES IN VEHICULAR TRAFFIC

A GENERAL REVIEW IS PRESENTED OF THE WORK WHICH HAS BEEN CARRIED OUT IN THE DEPARTMENT OF THEORETICAL PHYSICS, GENERAL MOTORS RESEARCH LABORATORIES, IN THE FIELD OF VEHICULAR TRAFFIC SCIENCE AND THEORETICAL TRAFFIC FLOW. THERE IS PARTICULAR EMPHASIS ON SPECIFIC AND WELL-DEFINED PROBLEMS THAT HAVE BEEN INVESTIGATED BOTH THEORETICALLY AND EXPERIMENTALLY. SOME OF THESE PROBLEMS ARE: SINGLE-LANE TRAFFIC FLOW, MULTIPLE-LANE TRAFFIC FLOW, MERGING AND HIGHWAY CROSSING, INTERSECTION PROBLEMS, VEHICLE PLATOON AND STABILITY STUDIES, AND SOME INVESTIGATIONS RELATED TO THE HUMAN FACTORS ASPECT OF DRIVER BEHAVIOR. /BPR/
