LIGHTNING PROTECTION FOR TRAFFIC CONTROLLERS THROUGH STRINGENT GROUND BONDING
SEVERAL IMPORTANT INSTALLATION AND OPERATING PROCEDURES CAN RESULT IN INTERSECTION CONTROL EQUIPMENT THAT IS VIRTUALLY IMMUNE TO ELECTRICAL STORM DAMAGE. CORRECTLY SPECIFIED GROUND RODS SHOULD BE DRIVEN TO THE FULL DEPTH SPECIFIED. WHEN ROCK LEDGE OR IMPENETRABLE HARDPAN IS ENCOUNTERED, SEVERAL RODS CAN BE DRIVEN AT ACUTE ANGLES. ALL INTERCONNECTING CABLING AND OTHER WIRING MUST BE BONDED TOGETHER. INTER-CONDUIT BONDING SHOULD BE OF THE LARGEST SIZE CONDUCTOR POSSIBLE. FRICTION-TYPE CONNECTORS SHOULD BE AVOIDED IN FAVOR OF THREADING AND INSTALLING POSITIVE TERMINAL CONNECTIONS.
