PARKING STUDIES BY ABBREVIATED METHODS

ESTIMATES BASED ON TWO ABBREVIATED METHODS WERE COMPARED WITH THE FINDINGS OF A PEAK MOMENT INTERVIEW PARKING STUDY CONDUCTED BY THE CITY OF CORVALLIS. THE RANK SIZE ORDER METHOD IS BASED ON A TABLE OF KNOWN PARKING CHARACTERISTICS OF 58 CITIES, RANKED BY SIZE AND CLASSIFIED BY TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT. CENTRAL BUSINESS DISTRICT PARKING FOR AN UNKNOWN CITY IS ESTIMATED FROM THAT IN THE NEAREST CITY IN THE TABLE. IN THE SECOND METHOD ESTIMATES ARE BASED ON CITY RANKING BY RETAIL SALES VOLUME AND TYPE. THE TWO ESTIMATES WERE AVERAGED AND FOUND TO BE IN REASONABLE AGREEMENT WITH INTERVIEW FINDINGS.
