100 YEARS OF TRAFFIC SIGNALS /IN GERMAN/

THE HISTORY OF TRAFFIC SIGNALS ARE TRACED FROM THE FIRST ONE INSTALLED IN LONDON IN 1868, WHICH WAS GAS-OPERATED. THE FIRST ELECTRIC SIGNAL CAME INTO BEING IN 1913 IN CLEVELAND, AND AS EARLY AS 1917 COORDINATED SIGNALS WERE INTRODUCED AT SEVERAL JUNCTIONS IN SALT LAKE CITY. THIS WAS FOLLOWED BY LINKED SIGNALS SET UP IN THE SAME TOWN IN 1922. DEVELOPMENTS IN LONDON, PARIS AND BERLIN ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. THE AUTHOR CONCLUDES THAT TRAFFIC SIGNALS HAVE NOW BEEN DEVELOPED ALMOST TO THEIR LIMIT, AND THAT NO NEW INNOVATIONS ARE LIKELY. /FG/RRL/
