TRAFFIC PROBLEMS AROUND THE WORLD

THIS PAPER PRESENTS A GLIMPSE AT TRAFFIC PROBLEMS IN VARIOUS AREAS AROUND THE WORLD. IT EXPOSES THE READER TO IMPRESSIONS OF THE SOCIAL, ECONOMIC AND POLITICAL IMPLICA- TIONS OF TRAFFIC IN EUROPE, THE MIDDLE EAST AND SOUTHEAST ASIA. ALTHOUGH NO CONCLUSIONS ARE DRAWN, IT IS APPARENT THAT EFFICIENT MASS TRANSPORTATION HAS IN CERTAIN AREAS FORESTALLED THE PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH THE MOTOR VEHICLE ON THE NORTH AMERICAN CONTINENT. THERE IS SUBSTANTIAL EVIDENCE THAT THE NEED TO PROVIDE EFFICIENT TRAFFIC CIRCU- LATION IS RECOGNIZED THROUGHOUT THE WORLD WITH POSITIVE STEPS BEING TAKEN TO COPE WITH THE MOUNTING PROBLEMS. /CGRA/A/
