MAXIMUM MILEAGE POSSIBILITIES OF EXISTING TIRES AND AVAILABLE TIREBUILDING MATERIAL

MEANS OF CONSERVING TIRES DURING THE WAR RUBBER SHORTAGE ARE DISCUSSED. IT IS RECOMMENDED THAT SPEED LIMITS BE REDUCED FURTHER, ESPECIALLY ON CURVES AND IN STOP-AND-GO AREAS. LOADS, PARTICULARLY ON COMMERCIAL VEHICLES, SHOULD BE REGULATED. THE IMPORTANCE OF MAINTAINING PROPER PRESSURE; OF FREQUENT INSPECTION ON TIRES FOR CUTS AND BRUISES, AND THEIR PROMPT REPAIR; OF PROPER MATCHING OF DUAL-MOUNTED TRUNK TIRES; OF FREQUENT INSPECTION OF BRAKES AND WHEEL ALIGNMENT; AND OF THE MAINTANCE OF WHEELS AND RIMS IS EMPHASIZED. RECLAIMED RUBBER IS RECOMMENDED AS SATISFACTORY FOR MODERATE SPEEDS. TIRES MADE FROM RUBBER SUBSTITUTES ARE BEING INVESTIGATED.
