TOTAL TRANSPORTATION COST CONCEPT
When comparing different ways of transporting cargo ( by sea, truck and railway ), pure transportation costs have to be considered as well as costs such as terminal expenses, packing expenses, transhipment costs and costs to get the cargo to and from the nearest terminal. All these additional costs may be more than the pure transportation cost. Though the total transportation cost is a very important factor, other factors such as time regularity in service, and the handling of the cargo must be considered when deciding how to transport the goods.
