ROAD USER REACTION TO THE TOWN DRIVING HEADLIGHT BEAM
A TOWN DRIVING BEAM IS ESSENTIALLY A LOWER BEAM REDUCED TO 1/10 INTENSITY IN ORDER TO REDUCE GLARE BUT STILL PROVIDE A DISTINCT MARKER OF A MOVING VEHICLE. THE GROUP OF TWENTY-FOUR ROAD USERS, PREFERRED THE USE OF THE TOWN BEAM TO THE LOWER BEAM. THIS PREFERENCE APPEARS TO BE BASED MAINLY ON COMFORT CONSIDERATION. THE RESULT SUGGESTS THAT ROAD USERS ARE CRITICAL OF THE PRESENT USE OF LOWER BEAMS IN WELL LIGHTED STREETS AND THAT THE LOWER BEAM SHOULD BE MODIFIED USING THE CONCEPT OF THE TOWN BEAM TO IMPROVE THE NIGHT DRIVING ENVIRONMENT. /AUTHOR/
