PREDICTING TRAFFIC DEATH RATES

A FORMULA IS DERIVED FOR PREDICTING THE DEATH RATE IN EACH STATE BASED ON THE FOLLOWING FACTORS: (1) GAS CONSUMPTION PER CAPITA; (2) INCREASE IN GAS CONSUMPTION OVER PREVIOUS YEAR; (3) PERCENT OF HIGHWAY MILEAGE SURFACED; (4) POPULATION INCREASE OVER A 10 YEAR PERIOD; AND (5) VEHICLES PER CAPITA. PEDESTRIAN DEATH RATES WERE FOUND TO BE RELATED TO (1) POPULATION INCREASE OVER A 10 YEAR PERIOD; (2) PERCENT OF POPULATION THAT IS URBAN; AND (3) INCOME PER CAPITA. /AUTHOR/
