SPEEDING UP BUS TRAFFIC BY MEANS OF BUS LANES AND "MANIPULATED CONGESTION"
IN URBAN TRANSPORT PUNCTUALITY AND FREQUENT SERVICE ARE MORE IMPORTANT THAN SPEED, AND BUS SERVICES CAN BE MADE MORE EFFICIENT BY THE PROVISION OF SPECIAL BUS LANES IN CONGESTED AREAS, ESPECIALLY AT JUNCTIONS, AND A SIMULTANEOUS ADJUSTMENT OF TRAFFIC SIGNAL PHASES. WHEN THIS WAS DONE IN THE TOWN CENTER OF WIESBADEN, DELAYS OF 10 - 15 MINUTES WERE REDUCED TO 2 - 3 MINUTES, AND IT IS HOPED THAT SIMILAR DELAYS CAN ALSO BE REDUCED ON ACCESS AND EXIT ROADS. /TRRL/
