CALCULATION OF OPTIMAL SIGNAL PROGRAMS FOR ISOLATED INTERSECTIONS
THE COMPUTING PROGRAM SIGPHA PERMITS THE CALCULATION OF SIGNAL PROGRAMS FOR ARBITRARILY COMPLICATED INTERSECTIONS. THESE SIGNAL PROGRAMS ARE OPTIMAL INSOFAR AS THE TRANSITION TIMES AT PHASE CHANGES WHICH CAUSE TIME DELAYS CAN BE MINIMIZED BY AN APPROPRIATE CHOICE OF THE SEQUENCE OF THE TRAFFIC STREAMS. IN GENERAL, THERE EXIST MANY SOLUTIONS VIZ., THE BEGINNINGS OF GREEN AND THE GREEN DURATIONS OF SOME TRAFFIC STREAMS MAY STILL BE ALTERED WITHOUT REDUCING THE CAPACITY OF THE INTERSECTION. THEREFORE, THE COORDINATION OF THE INTERSECTION WITH ADJACENT INTERSECTIONS IS POSSIBLE WITHIN CERTAIN LIMITS. THE APPLICATION OF SIGPHA IS SHOWN WITH TWO INTERSECTIONS, ONE OF THEM HAVING INTERNAL QUEUEING AREAS. /AUTHOR/
