STUDY OF MOTOR VEHICLE CODES AND DRIVERS' LICENSING PRACTICES
ACTIVITY IN THE AREA OF THE EDUCATION OF DRIVERS TO THE RAILROAD CROSSING HAZARD IS REPORTED. DURING THE PAST THREE YEARS, THE TREND HAS BEEN FOR THE STATES TO PROVIDE LESS RATHER THAN MORE INFORMATION REGARDING THE GRADE CROSSING SITUATION. WHILE SLIGHTLY MORE ATTENTION WAS SHOWN TO FLASHING LIGHT SIGNALS AND CROSSING GATES, THE OVERALL COVERAGE OF THE TOTAL GRADE CROSSING SITUATION SHOWS A DECLINE. SEVERAL STATES ARE IN THE PROCESS OF REVISING AND UP-DATING THEIR DRIVERS MANUALS AND HAVE INDICATED THEIR DESIRE TO INCLUDE ADDITIONAL, MORE INFORMATIVE MATERIALS REGARDING GRADE CROSSING SITUATIONS.
