A SPECIALLY DESIGNED TRAFFIC LIGHT SET UP IN MONTREAL...
A SPECIALLY DESIGNED TRAFFIC LIGHT SET UP IN MONTREAL TO HELP COLOR-BLIND MOTORISTS HAS BEEN FOUND TO AID DRIVERS WITH NORMAL VISION AS WELL. THE DESIGNER, OTTAVIO GALELLA, SAID TRAFFIC ACCIDENTS DROPPED 80% AFTER THE LIGHTS WERE INSTALLED AT A SUBURBAN INTERSECTION. THE LIGHT IS A TWO- BULB SYSTEM WITH EMPHASIS ON SHAPE. ONE BULB ILLUMINATES A RED SQUARE SUPERIMPOSED ON A YELLOW SQUARE, THE OTHER BULB LIGHTS A GREEN HEXAGON SUPERIMPOSED ON A YELLOW HEXAGON. COLOR-BLIND DRIVERS SIMPLY LOOK AT THE YELLOW BACKGROUND TO DETERMINE IF THE SQUARE OR HEXAGON IS LIT. OTHERS LOOK AT THE COLORS. /ARTICLE/
