What is the safety potential of intelligent transport systems?
In this paper, a study of the potential safety benefits of ITS applications is presented. The conclusion is that there is a potential in the long run to reduce the number of fatalities in road traffic of around 40 per cent. Up to year 2015, we believe that the potential lies around 17 per cent. The challenge for the ITS society lies in finding and developing further ITS applications that can increase the safety benefits even more or speed up the implementation process.
