National asphalt specification

The specification has been prepared for the manufacture, supply and placing of dense graded hot mix asphalt (also referred to as asphaltic concrete or AC), open graded asphalt (OGA), stone mastic asphalt (SMA) and fine gap graded asphalt (FGGA) for roadworks and related applications. Different criteria apply to quality of components and asphalt mix design according to the application. The nominal size and types of mixes to be used should be specified in the Schedule of Job Details. A guide to the selection of mixes is given in the notes to Section 3.
