AN INDUCTIVE HIGHWAY COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEMS
FROM A LONG-RANGE VIEWPOINT, USE OF WIDEBAND COAXIAL-CABLE SYSTEMS OFFERS A PROMISING MEANS OF ACCOMMODATING EXISTING AND FUTURE COMMUNICATIONS, SURVEILLANCE AND CONTROL REQUIREMENTS ON MAJOR HIGHWAYS. INTEGRATION OF A NUMBER OF POINT-TO-POINT AND VEHICLE COMMUNICATION FUNCTIONS MAY BE ACCOMODATED IN A WIDEBAND SYSTEM EXTENDING ALONG THE RIGHT- OF-WAY. RESTRICTION IN SYSTEM TRANSMISSION RANGE OF SIGNALS TO AND FROM VEHICLES IN SUCH A MANNER THAT THE SIGNALS ARE CONFINED PRIMARILY WITHIN THE HIGHWAY AREA MAY BE PROVIDED BY A COMBINATION OF CABLE-MULTIPLEX TECHNIQUES AND INDUCTION-RADIO TRANSMISSION METHODS. /AUTHOR/
