EFFECT OF VALUE ENGINEERING ON SYSTEM RELIABILITY
Value engineering changes to equipment or methods of contract performance may have either a beneficial or detrimental effect upon equipment reliability. Changes are discussed which are likely to improve reliability because they have the following features-reduction in parts count, reduction in power consumption, improved accessibility and testability, reduction in number and complexity of manufacturing operations, and improvement in marginal design parameters. Reliability and cost improvement figures are briefly considered. Reliability pitfalls in value engineering are discussed.
