SPLIT OR JOINT PEDESTRIAN AND BICYCLE PATHS?
OBSERVATIONS WERE CARRIED OUT ALONG THE CYCLE TRACKS AND PEDESTRIAN PATHS IN THE CENTER OF THE TOWN OF ESPOO NEAR HELSINKI TO SEE WHETHER PEDESTRIAN TRAFFIC AND BICYCLE TRAFFIC SHOULD BE SEPARATED. THE RESULTS OF THIS STUDY SEEM TO INDICATE THAT, WHERE THERE ARE NO SHOP WINDOWS AND THE DISTANCE BETWEEN THE FACADE AND THE PATH IS NOT LESS THAN 1.5M, THERE ARE NO REASONS FOR SEPARATING PEDESTRIAN AND CYCLE TRAFFIC.
