Long term road maintenance contracts in Western Australia: where to after term network contracts
There has been a project underway since late 2005 to develop a strategy for the delivery of road maintenance on Western Australian highways and main roads after the conclusion of the current contracts. The phases of this project are: capturing the lessons learnt by MRWA and the Western Australian road maintenance industry from the current contracts; exploring advancements in road maintenance contract types or methods from other road agencies and looking at new and/or innovative contract forms for delivering maintenance. The project will produce a lessons learnt discussion paper. The discussion paper will be followed by a position paper that will present the recommended future methods for delivering road maintenance. This paper will summarise the main aspects of the current contracts; the lessons learnt from these contracts, including the lessons gained from the variation to relationship/alliance contract form; the methods and approaches from other road agencies and/or infrastructure industries that have appeal to MRWA.
