Improving road and tunnel safety via incident management: implementing a video image processing system

This paper discusses the wide range of capabilities and some of the limitations of video image processing for incident detection as Traficon has experienced it over the past 25 years. A basic methodology is discussed highlighting the key parameters for implementing a video image processing system. A detailed case study of Scandinavian highway and tunnel projects is illustrated.
