POISSON AND OTHER DISTRIBUTIONS IN TRAFFIC
THE PRESENT VOLUME IS AN UPDATED VERSION OF A 1955 ENO PUBLICATION ENTITLED "POISSON AND TRAFFIC." THE REVISION REFINES MANY OF THE PREVIOUS EXAMPLES AND INCLUDES DISCRETE DISTRIBUTIONS OTHER THAN POISSON AND CONTINUOUS ONES OTHER THAN THE NEGATIVE EXPONENTIAL. AMONG THE LATTER ARE THE ERLANG DISTRIBUTION AND THE KOLMOGOROV--SMIRNOV TEST FOR GOODNESS OF FIT. APPLICATIONS ARE EXEMPLIFIED BY A VARIETY OF TRAFFIC SITUATIONS. A SPECIAL SECTION IS DEVOTED TO APPLICATIONS OF PROBABILITY THEORY TO VEHICLE DISTRIBUTION ON TWO-LANE HIGHWAYS. APPENDICES DEAL WITH FUNDAMENTAL THEOREMS IN STATISTICS AND PROBABILITY THEORY AND CONTAIN A COMPUTER PROGRAM FOR SELECTING AND FITTING A DISCRETE DISTRIBUTION.
