PROCEEDINGS THEORY OF TRAFFIC FLOW, KARLSRUHE, JUNE 1968.

IN THE PAPERS PRESENTED AND DISCUSSED HERE A SHIFT OF EMPHASIS IN TRAFFIC FLOW RESEARCH IS CLEARLY NOTICEABLE. THE MAIN EMPHASIS IN PREVIOUS SYMPOSIA WAS GIVEN TO THE PROBLEM OF MATHEMATICAL DESCRIPTION OF THE TRAFFIC FLOW; HERE, THE QUESTIONS OF PSYCHOPHYSICAL FACTORS IN CAR FOLLOWING AND OF EXPERIMENTAL VERIFICATION OF EXISTING THEORIES HAVE GAINED MORE IMPORTANCE. IN ADDITION, A GROWING NUMBER OF PAPERS DEAL WITH QUESTIONS OF TRAFFIC FLOW (INCLUSIVE OF TRAFFIC CONTROL) IN TRAFFIC SYSTEMS. A NUMBER OF PAPERS SHOW THE GROWING INTEREST OF SCIENTISTS IN TRANSPORTATION SYSTEM ANALYSIS. THIRTY-TWO OF THE PAPERS ARE IN ENGLISH, SIX IN GERMAN, AND THREE IN FRENCH. /AUTHOR/
