BRIDGING THE GAP BETWEEN THEORY AND PARCTICE-REVIEW AND RENEWAL
CONSCIENTIOUSLY CONDUCTED RESEARCH IS SELDOM VOID OF VALUE. THE COMMUNICATIONS GAP IN WHICH THE RESEARCH RESULTS FAILED TO ACCOMPLISH WHAT THEY ARE DESIGNED TO DO IS DISCUSSED. ADVANCEMENT OF THE STATE-OF-THE-ART IS RECOMMENDED TO MONITOR APPLICATIONS OF NEW TRAFFIC FLOW RESEARCH. USERS OF THE 1965 HIGHWAY CAPACITY MANUAL ARE ENCOURAGED TO REPORT THEIR SUCCESSES AND FAILURES IN USING THE MANUAL TO THE HIGHWAY CAPACITY COMMITTEE OF THE HIGHWAY RESEARCH BOARD. REVIEW AND RENEWAL IS VISUALIZED AS A LINK TO BRIDGE THE GAP FROM PRACTICE TO RESEARCH. CONTINUING EVALUATION AND REVIEW ARE RECOMMENDED IN CONNECTION WITH DEMONSTRATION PROJECTS.
