EVALUATION OF SINGLE-AND TWO-REGIME TRAFFIC FLOW MODELS
TUNNEL DATA AS WELL AS THE ORIGINAL FREEWAY DATA WERE SUBJECTED TO EXTENSIVE ANALYSIS TO DETERMINE THE TRAFFIC FLOW MODEL WHICH MEANT THE PRE-SELECTED CRITERIA ASSUMING A SINGLE SPEED-DENSITY REGIME. BOTH SETS OF DATA WERE SUBJECTED TO SIMILAR ANALYSIS TO DETERMINE THE TRAFFIC FLOW MODEL FOR THE FREE FLOW REGIME AND THE CONGESTED FLOW REGIME WHICH MEANT THE PRE-SELECTED CRITERIA FOR TWO REGIME MODELS. THE MODEL PROPOSED BY GREENSHIELDS, UNDERWOOD, AND DRAKE BEST REPRESENTED THE TWO SETS OF DATA. THE ORIGINAL CAR FOLLOWING MODEL AND THE GREENBERG MODEL BEST REPRESENTED THE TWO CONGESTED FLOW REGIME MODELS. IT IS CONCLUDED THAT THE SELECTED TUNNEL FREE-FLOW REGIME MODEL IS BEST REPRESENTED BY THE GREENSHIELDS MODEL AND THE UNDERWOOD MODEL. THE DETERMINATION OF THE LIMITS FOR THE FREE FLOW AND CONGESTED FLOW REGIMES UNDOUBTEDLY AFFECT THE SELECTION OF TWO REGIME MODELS.
