ADVANCED CONTROL TECHNOLOGY IN URBAN TRAFFIC CONTROL SYSTEMS - VOLUME I: SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
AN URBAN TRAFFIC CONTROL SYSTEM (UTCS) IS PROPOSED FOR THE WASHINGTON, D.C., CBD THAT WOULD EMPLOY ADVANCED SENSORY, COMMUNICATIONS, AND COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY TO MONITOR DOWNTOWN STREET CONDITIONS IN REAL-TIME AND ADJUST NETWORK SIGNAL TIMING ACCORDINGLY. THE UTCS IS DESIGNED TO SUPPLEMENT EXISTING LOCAL-DIAL CONTROLS THAT REMAIN INTACT TO PROVIDE A BACK-UP FOR THE COMPUTER SYSTEM. THE INTELLECTUAL, SOFTWARE, AND HARDWARE COMPONENTS OF THE SYSTEM ARE DESCRIBED IN DETAIL, TOGETHER WITH INSTALLATION, OPERATION, AND MAINTENANCE PLANS. /UMTA/
