EXPRESSWAY MEDIAN BARRIER RAILS, BEFORE AND AFTER ACCIDENT RATES, 1963-1968
THE PURPOSE WAS TO DETERMINE THE EFFECT OF THE MEDIAN RAIL ON ACCIDENT RATES AND SEVERITIES. OF PARTICULAR INTEREST WAS THE EFFECT OF THE MEDIAN RAIL ON HEAD-ON ACCIDENTS. ALTHOUGH MEDIAN-RELATED ACCIDENTS ROSE 35%, ALL THE OVERALL SEVERITY RATES WERE LOWERED. HEAD-ON COLLISIONS DROPPED FROM 0.7% TO 0.1%. /HSL/
