REQUIREMENTS AND METHODOLOGY FOR EVALUATION OF THE WAYSIDE COMMUNICATION LINK
THE REQUIREMENTS OF WAYSIDE COMMUNICATION LINK, AS DEVELOPED FROM THE COMMUNICATIONS OBJECTIVE, ARE REVIEWED AND THE STRUCTURE WHICH UNDERLIES THE METHODOLOGY OF EVALUATION IS SHOWN. DURING DESIGN AND ITS EVALUATION, THE GUIDE MUST BE CONSIDERED A COMPONENT WITHIN A COMMUNICATION SUBSYSTEM WHICH IN TURN IS AN ELEMENT OF THE OVERALL COMMUNICATION SYSTEM. ECONOMIC AND TECHNICAL TRADEOFFS ARE NECESSARY AMONG THE FOLLOWING ELEMENTS: WAVEGUIDE CHARACTERISTICS, REPEATER CHARACTERISTICS AND PROCEDURES FOR COMPENSATING THE TRANSMISSION PROPERTIES, MODULATION AND CODING METHODS, TERMINAL EQUIPMENTS, WHAT IS TO BE COMMUNICATED (NUMBER OF CHANNELS, CHANNEL FORMAT, CHANNEL QUALITY AND RELIABILITY, TERMINAL ARRANGEMENTS, ETC.). THE FIRST FOUR ITEMS ARE VERY TIGHTLY INTERRELATED. THE APPENDICES PRESENT DETAILS OF THE METHODOLOGY, WHILE THE BODY OF THE REPORT DESCRIBES AND JUSTIFIES THE METHODOLOGY. /TSR & A/
