THE PERFORMANCE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE INDUCTION LOOP VEHICLE DETECTOR
THERE IS A CONTINUING SEARCH FOR A TRANSDUCER IN ALL CONTROL APPLICATIONS WITH THE CHARACTERISTICS OF LOW INITIAL COST COUPLED WITH LOW MAINTENANCE COST. THIS IS PARTICULARLY TRUE IN THE TRAFFIC CONTROL FIELD. THE INDUCTION LOOP VEHICLE DETECTOR HAS PERFORMED ACCURATELY AND RELIABLY IN MANY COUNTING APPLICATIONS. THIS PAPER OUTLINES THE TEST PROCEDURES, RECORDING INSTRUMENTATION AND THE ANALYSIS METHOD USED TO EVALUATE THE PERFORMANCE CHARACTERISTICS OF THE INDUCTION LOOP VEHICLE DETECTOR AND INDICATES A METHOD BY WHICH THIS TYPE OF DETECTOR CAN BE USED IN MORE SOPHISTICATED TRAFFIC CONTROL APPLICATIONS. /AUTHOR/
