TECHNICAL DATA MANAGEMENT SYMPOSIUM HELD AT WASHINGTON, D. C., SEPTEMBER 12-14, 1967, ON NUMERICAL CONTROL, DESIGN AND RELATED TECHNICAL DATA MANAGEMENT

This paper relates the advent of numerical control and its impact on technical data management. A look is taken at the present application of numerical control in a jobbing operation and its economics in production. Some better data management is needed now and this need will increase with time. Realistic functional drafting for numerical control in the naval shipyards will require better drafting management. MIL-STD-100 and its relation to numerical control is discussed. A detailed example is used to illustrate. Present use of computers and future computer-aided design brings new technical data management requirements. Beyond this lies the direct route from computer-aided design to finished product via numerical control. Here technical data management becomes the real key to economic success. We must value engineer our real requirements and make ready. ( Author )
