STUDY OF CLEARANCE INTERVAL AT TRAFFIC SIGNALS
A PILOT STUDY WAS CONDUCTED BY THE INSTITUTE OF TRANSPORTATION AND TRAFFIC ENGINEERING AT THE UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA FOR THE CALIFORNIA DIVISION OF HIGHWAYS. AN INVESTIGATION WAS COMPLETED CONCERNING TRAFFIC BEHAVIOR RELATING TO THE AMBER PERIOD AT TRAFFIC SIGNALS, POSSIBLE MODIFICATIONS IN AMBER PERIOD DURATION, ADVANCE SIGNING, AND ADDITIONAL PAVEMENT MARKINGS. THE INITIAL STAGE OF THE REPORT INCLUDES A LITERATURE SEARCH, A REVIEW OF CURRENT PRACTICE, AND A THEORETICAL ANALYSIS. THE SECOND STAGE IS CONCERNED WITH EXPERIMENTAL FIELD STUDIES AND INCLUDES THE DESIGN OF EXPERIMENT AND FIELD WORK, FILM ANALYSIS, DATA PROCESSING AND DATA REDUCTION, AND EXPERIMENTAL FIELD STUDY RESULTS. A SUMMARY IS ALSO INCLUDED AND THE APPENDICES ARE DEVOTED TO ANNOTATIONS OF THE MOST PERTINENT REFERENCES, A KEY WORD INDEX, AND AN AUTHOR INDEX. /AUTHOR/
