AN ANALYSIS OF TRAFFIC OPERATION ON WESTBOUND LANES OF 1-70 BETWEEN KINGSHIGHWAY BLVD. AND LUCAS-HUNT RD
THE FREEWAY CORRIDOR SURVEILLANCE STUDY, INCLUDING I-70 FROM KINGSHIGHWAY TO LUCAS-HUNT ROAD, WAS CONDUCTED TO DETERMINE THE POSSIBILITY AND EXTENT OF ACTION NECESSARY TO IMPROVE THE PM PEAK TRAFFIC FLOW. WHILE THE STUDIES INDICATE THE NEED FOR AN ADDITIONAL LANE ON I-70, THE RECOMMENDATION MADE WAS TO METER THREE RAMPS TO DIVERT SUFFICIENT TRAFFIC TO LOWER THE V/C RATIO TO AN ACCEPTABLE LEVEL. THIS WOULD BE THE FIRST STEP IN AN OVERALL PLAN OF FREEWAY OPERATION CONTROL IN THE ST. LOUIS AREA. /AUTHOR/
