PENN AVENUE INTERCHANGE STUDY
THE TRAFFIC OPERATIONS WERE EVALUATED BEFORE AND AFTER VARIOUS GEOMETRIC REVISIONS AND INSTALLATION OF TRAFFIC SIGNALS WERE MADE AT TWO DIAMOND INTERCHANGES. THE REPORT SHOWS THAT THE OPERATIONAL PROBLEMS, WHICH EXISTED AT THE BEGINNING OF THE STUDY, HAVE BEEN FULLY CORRECTED. RE- LOCATION OF FRONTAGE ROAD TERMINALS, ADDITION OF RIGHT-TURN CHANNELS, INSTALLATION OF ACTUATED TRAFFIC SIGNALS, ADDITION TO MEDIAN BARRIERS, WIDENING RAMPS AND INTERSECTIONS HAVE BEEN FOUND EFFECTIVE IN IMPROVING THE QUALITY OF SERVICE TO VOLUMES HAVE GENERALLY INCREASED OVER THE STUDY PERIOD, QUEUE LENGTHS AND DELAY TIME WERE DECREASED AT PREVIOUSLY CONGESTED ELEMENTS OF THE INTERCHANGE. /BPR/
