INFORMATION REQUIREMENTS FOR EXITING AT INTERCHANGE
THIS REPORT IS CONCERNED WITH DEVELOPING MEASURES OF A DRIVERS INFORMATION REQUIREMENTS AT INTERCHANGE. USING BOTH AN AUTOMOBILE SIMULATOR AND FIELD TESTS FOR A SERIES OF STUDIES, THE EFFECT OF 1 TO 4 PIECES OF INFORMATION (IL) AS A FUNCTION OF INFORMATION LEAD DISTANCE (ILD) WERE MEASURED. INFORMATION PRESENTATION TIME (IPT) WAS ALSO VARIED. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE ILD OF 1/2 MI. IS OPTIMAL AND A VIEWING TIME OF 5 SECONDS IS ADEQUATE FOR PRESENT SIGN CONTENT. /BPR/
