TECHNIQUES FOR CHARACTERIZING THE CORROSION BEHAVIOR OF ENGINEERING ALLOYS

One of the most important aspects of corrosion engineering is the problem of how to establish the corrosion behavior of engineering alloys so that they may be satisfactorily used in a specific application. In the absence of pertinent service history, the corrosion engineer must develop suitable corrosion data from which service performance may be anticipated. A variety of techniques are available to assist him with the measurement of the amount and type of metal damage caused by corrosion processes and to help him characterize the factors related to the environment, the metal and the metal environment interface that control these processes.
