EMPHASIS IS PLACED ON THOSE ASPECTS OF DRIVING KNOWN TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH VIOLATIONS, ACCIDENTS, INJURIES, AND TRAFFIC FLOW. THE ROLE OF THE DRIVER AS ONE ELEMENT IN A TRAFFIC SYSTEM IS DISCUSSED WITH EMPHASIS ON WHAT HE CAN DO AS A DRIVER TO IMPROVE EFFICIENCY AND SAFETY. DESCRIPTION OF THE DRIVING TASK IS DIVIDED INTO FOUR PARTS: THE TASK AND SKILLS NEEDED TO PERFORM IT; GENERAL PERFORMANCE SKILLS; COMMON DRIVING MANEUVERS; SELECTED CONDITIONS OF HIGHWAY, WEATHER, VEHICLE, AND DRIVER WHICH INFLUENCE THE DRIVING TASK. /HSL/
