ELECTRIC CARS: THE BATTERY PROBLEM
THERE IS NO KNOWN, OR AT LEAST PUBLISHED, BATTERY DEVELOPMENT WORK THAT JUSTIFIES HOPE FOR THE COMPLETE REPLACEMENT OF THE HEAT ENGINE POWERED AUTOMOBILE BY THE BATTERY POWERED VEHICLE IN LESS THAN 30 YEARS. BUT THE ELECTRIC CAR WITH A HEAT ENGINE ABOARD TO OPERATE AN ELECTRICAL POWER GENERATOR THAT RECHARGES THE BATTERIES (THE HEAT ENGINE/BATTERY HYBRID, HEBAH) IS A VERY PROMISING APPROACH TO THE PROBLEM OF REDUCING AUTOMOBILE EMISSIONS BY A SUBSTANTIAL AMOUNT IN A SURPRISINGLY SHORT PERIOD OF TIME AND AT NOT TOO MUCH OF A PRICE PENALTY IN COMPARISON WITH THE STANDARD AUTOMOBILE. /AUTHOR/
