VEHICLE STRUCTURAL CRASHWORTHINESS. STATE-OF-THE-ART
A REASONABLE DEGREE OF CRASHWORTHINESS UP TO A GIVEN SPEED OF IMPACT CAN BE ACHIEVED FOR A CORRECTLY RESTRAINED OCCUPANT BY A CORRECT DISTRIBUTION OF MASSES; ENERGY ABSORBING DEVICES; GIVING THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT THE GREATEST POSSIBLE STIFFNESS; KEEPING DOORS CLOSED DURING IMPACT; AVOIDING PENETRATION OF MECHANICAL COMPONENTS INTO THE PASSENGER COMPARTMENT. THIS CAN BE ACHIEVED BY SCIENTIFIC ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION AND USE OF COMPUTERS OR SIMULATORS FOR TESTING, IN ADDITION TO THE USE OF CREATIVE IMAGINATION. /HSL/
