AUTOMATIC FALLING OCCUPANT PROTECTING NET-PRELIMINARY STUDY
AN AUTOMATIC, FALLING, OCCUPANT-PROTECTING NET IS DESIGNED TO COUNTERACT FORWARD BODY ACCELERATION AND MINIMIZE HEAD, NECK, AND CHEST INJURIES. OPERATIONAL NOISE IS NEGLIGIBLE. THE NET RESTRAINT IS EFFECTIVE IN PREVENTING INJURY. THE DEVICE IS EFFECTIVE IN REDUCING THE OCCURRENCE OF INJURIES BY PASSENGER INTERACTION FOR REAR SEAT OCCUPANTS. UNKNOWN IS THE THRUST OF THE NET INTO THE SKIN. IN ORDER TO ELIMINATE THE WHIPLASH PHENOMENON AND TO OBTAIN A HIGHER EFFECT IN REDUCING COLLISION OF PASSENGERS, IT IS NECESSARY TO STRETCH A LARGER NET NEARER TO THE OCCUPANT. THE DEVICE WAS INVESTIGATED BY SLED AND BARRIER TESTS USING ANTHROPOMORPHIC DUMMIES. /HSL/
